In August 2008, a few friends got together to discuss a statewide blog. The conversation ebbed and flowed over the months as other things – work, family, travel, elections, to name a few – got in the way. Names and formats were suggested and discarded. In late June 2009, we came up with a name which, to our great surprise, was not in use. Thus Virginia Free Press was born.
This site is a work in progress. We hope that you will find a home here, a place where you feel comfortable to discuss the issues of the day.
There is one point that we think is pretty important: on this site, we all use our real names. We understand that there are times when people have to use pseudonyms to protect themselves; however, we believe the use of real names fosters serious conversations. To that end, we are also requiring that you use your real name when registering to comment on this site.
